On the evening of Wednesday 20 March, Miami time, an industry crowd gathered at the plush Mondrian hotel in South Beach to hear the official word on the TomorrowWorld destination. Following the instant sell-out of this year’s Tomorrowland in Belgium, all eyes have been on the festival powerhouse ID&T to reveal its plans for the new TomorrowWorld event on 27, 28 and 29 September 2013. And that new location is the United States: specifically, Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia.
It’s said that capacity for TomorrowWorld will be 150,000, which will make it one of America’s largest EDM events. It’s also a 21+ festival. If you’re wondering where Chattahoochee Hills is located, it’s around 40 minutes drive from Georgia’s capital Atlanta, home of legendary southern hip hop acts like Outkast, Ludacris, T.I. and Gucci Mane. In recent times, Atlanta has also been a hotbed for the proliferation of ‘trap’. As ID&T announced, “the site is the property of a Belgian who is ready to receive TomorrowWorld with open arms and unparalleled hospitality”.
The TomorrowWorld line-up will begin to be announced at the beginning of April and then will continue daily on the Tomorrowland Facebook. TomorrowWorld will go on-sale exclusively to USA customers only on 27 April, followed by the rest of the world on 4 May ‘making sure the home country is looked after first’.
Over its eight editions, Belgium’s Tomorrowland has become one of the world’s most desirable festivals, with immense demand for tickets. The 2013 edition is set for 26 to 29 July, with a rapidly-growing line-up from all corners of dance music. Top-tier names like Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Hardwell, Avicii and Axwell headline across the long weekend, with dedicated stages for lovers of techno, dubstep, house, trance and so much in between. Then of course there’s the no-expense-spared production that’s captured in ID&T’s famous after-movies.
In January, the team behind Tomorrowland announced their plans to go global. “It’s our ambition to organise a Tomorrowland on every continent,” they told Belgian financial paper De Tijd. “We have received requests for versions of Tomorrowland from all over the world. From rich Russians and Indians to promoters in Australia, the U.S. and South America. We will do it, but on our conditions, and only in places where we feel comfortable.”
