Crowning the rooftop of one of the city’s swankiest hotels, Top of the Standard – formerly known as Boom Boom Room – is an exclusive members-only lounge sporting a luxurious 70s-inspired glam. An elevator featuring psychedelic videos delivers designer-clad celebs and tastemakers to a hallway of mirrors and windows that opens into a gilded high-ceilinged lounge dimly lit by starburst chandeliers. The venue’s shiny golds and creams seem to flow out from the center bar, itself distinguished by an immense ceiling-high fluted design. The highlight of the space, however, are the expansive windows that allow guests to take in the 360-degree views of Manhattan. Tiered and sunken VIP areas near the windows provide more secluded spots for prestigious guests from the worlds of art and entertainment, while gold-plated chairs and cream leather sofas on the periphery offer plenty of space for the chic clientele to chat, sip cocktails, and sway to the DJ’s beats. Although it never gets too wild – and the members-only policy after 10pm makes it near impossible to get past the door – Top of the Standard promises a luxurious night out for those who want to hobnob with the Big Apple’s true creative trendsetters.
